Winter in Cape Town is something to behold. The weather may be cool, but the scenery is green and there are bright, wind-free beach days to enjoy. Whether you want to climb Lion’s Head or take advantage of the quieter season and dine at some of the incredible restaurants we have on our doorstep, stay with us at Cape View Clifton and experience this magic time of year.  Here are just a few reasons why we love Cape Town in winter.

feel like you have it all to yourself

Winter is considered Cape Town’s low season and prominent attractions like Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens and the V&A Waterfront – to name but a few – are crowd-free. Take full advantage of the shorter queues, less traffic, easy parking and, of course, when we do get those glorious beach days, you may well feel like you have the best beaches in the world, all to yourself.

crisp mornings and brilliant blue skies

Cape Town enjoys a mild winter with daytime temperatures averaging between 18-20ºC. It is our rainy season but there are plenty of cloud-free blue skies and wind-free days. The cooler weather is ideal for hiking, trail running and mountain biking and, when it does rain, it’s the perfect excuse to explore all the city’s hidden gems – cosy restaurants and bars, award-winning museums, art galleries and shopping galore.

It’s the green season

World-renowned for its iconic landscapes, Cape Town’s spectacular scenery truly comes alive during winter – with the city turning green and lush after the first winter rains. It’s truly a sight to behold and the ideal time to explore the many gardens, forests, mountains, vineyards, waterfalls and streams that the city boasts.

The wining and dining is superb

Cape Town is home to some of the best restaurants in the world and, throughout winter, many restaurants run special menus and offer fantastic discounts. It’s also possible to book at some of the top restaurants whereas in peak season, booking far in advance is absolutely essential. Think crackling fires, world-class red wine and delicious comfort food – it’s all part of winter’s charm.

IT USHERS IN WHALE AND FLOWER SEASON

At the tail end of winter, you can enjoy two seasonal highlights – the annual whale season, which runs from July to September, and the incredible flower season, which runs between August and October. Take a drive along the coast and spot whales in the bay or seek out the blankets of blooms that adorn the local nature reserves.

Base yourself at Cape View Clifton for a few days whilst you explore all that the Mother City has to offer this winter. It’s perfectly located for beach, city and wine attractions, but also a superb spot to relax. Get in touch to find out more.
