Happy National Prudence Day! Today we celebrate one of Kay & Monty Vineyards day one’s. Over the past decade, Prudence has poured her heart into what she does – not just through impeccable service, but through the warmth, intention and care she brings to every guest interaction. Her presence has become part of the fabric of the space. With Pru, service isn’t only something you see, it’s something you feel. It’s in the way she welcomes people, the energy she brings to the team and the atmosphere she helps create.
As we celebrate her 10-year milestone, we asked Pru to reflect on her journey, the moments that have shaped her, and what hospitality truly means to her.
Looking back, what have been some of your favourite memories or moments at K&M?
“It’s difficult to choose just one, because there have been so many. One of my biggest joys has been seeing how much I’ve grown here, both personally and professionally. I’m proud of the person I’ve become, and K&M has played a huge part in that.
I feel happiest when guests compliment the service, the wines, the ambience, and the farm itself. Their happiness truly becomes mine. And I appreciate being part of a team that values my effort and supports me.
Honestly, most days feel special. Some of the best moments are the busy days when the whole team is working in perfect flow, the guests are enjoying themselves, and we end the day with laughter. Those moments stay with me.”
Hospitality means different things to different people. What does it mean to you personally?
“To me, hospitality means going the extra mile and creating moments that feel personal and genuine. I love remembering guests’ names, their stories, and their favourites – it makes the experience feel meaningful.
Guests often tell me they can see the passion in the way I host, and that they feel truly welcomed the moment they arrive. Many also compliment the whole K&M experience: the atmosphere, the food, the wines, and the warmth of our establishment.
Hearing those things is what keeps me motivated and reminds me why I enjoy doing this.”
What do you enjoy most about being part of the K&M team?
“What I enjoy most is the sense of family. We support one another, we learn from each other, and we celebrate each other. The teamwork makes even the busiest days feel worthwhile.
When I started, I knew so little about wine. Everything I know now, from wine knowledge to hosting to service, I learned here. K&M opened up a whole new world for me and expanded my confidence and skills in ways I never imagined.”
What is one thing you wish guests knew about the behind-the-scenes of creating a great experience?
“There is so much heart behind every smooth service – from the kitchen, to the floor, to the tasting room. Even on tough days, we give our best so that everything feels effortless for the guest.
Even when someone is going through a difficult day, you won’t see it in the way we serve. We show up with warmth and professionalism because creating a great experience is always our top priority.”
In your time here, is there a moment, compliment, or guest interaction that has stayed with you?
“There are so many moments that stay with me. Guests have complimented my passion, my service, the way I explain the wines, and how welcomed they feel. They can see how much I love what I do.
I also treasure the compliments people give to K&M: the beautiful ambience, the food, the wines, and the team’s energy. Those words reflect all the effort we put in together.
Moments like these remind me to keep growing, keep learning, and keep going further. They inspire me every single day.”
