From live music, delicious food and informal seating to a fun-filled, eclectic ceremony that broke all the rules – Jade and Greg’s festival-inspired wedding at Kay and Monty was one for the books. Find out more about their unique wedding style, the highlights of their special day and a few handy wedding planning tips below.

HOW DID YOU MEET? AND THE PROPOSAL?

We initially met in 2011 at the Avis Derby, arguably the most important event in the local show jumping calendar. It was a huge day for Jade, who was tipped as one of the favourites! For Greg, it’s somewhat different – he was there for the jol. An evening of festivities ensued! However, we only officially got together a few years later in 2016. Fast forward to 2018 in Val d’Isère, France – Greg popped the question outside the beautiful restaurant La Peau de Vache. What followed was a wonderful lunch at their best table and then the holiday of a lifetime with very special friends and family.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE KAY AND MONTY AS YOUR WEDDING VENUE?

Shortly after Kay and Monty opened their restaurant, we enjoyed an awesome afternoon there. It was part of a special holiday early on in our relationship that we will always remember. When we decided on Plett as a destination, Kay and Monty was really the only wedding venue of interest. It was large enough for our 160+ guests and perfect from a facilities and style perspective too.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING STYLE…

We wanted a festival vibe, the idea was to draw a line through almost every wedding tradition out there. Our ceremony was somewhat traditional but we invited a very eclectic advocate friend to host it. We twisted the vows and turned them into something to make our guests laugh while making sure our commitment shone through. There were no tables, no allocated seats, no first dance and no plated dinner. Everything was designed for our guests to be able to enjoy a serendipitous afternoon and evening of non-stop food and wonderful music with a layout that forced you to move and meet lots of the other guests.

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Kay and Monty smashed our rather unique food brief out of the park – we had seven food stations and seven bars, each named after a bridesmaid or groomsman. It was amazing! Also, Jermaine Fleur came out from Holland and performed some amazing music and GoodLuck played too – they were simply sensational. Mostly, it was the atmosphere and the vibe that lasted right until the very end of the night!

YOUR TOP TIP FOR PLANNING A WEDDING?

  • If you’re not in events professionally, get help.

  • It’s about your guests, not you! Create the experience to please them and you will have an amazing day.

  • Don’t be involved (at all) on the day. Put people in place to execute what your have dreamt and trust them to deliver it as they interpret it. Come and be a guest at your wedding!

  • Stop regularly and spend time with each other, it goes by in a flash!
