Leanne and Kyle were surrounded by rolling vineyards and majestic polo ponies as they welcomed their nearest and dearest to witness their love and commitment at Kay and Monty Vineyards, just outside Plettenberg Bay. Guests sat overlooking the glassy dam during the ceremony and a combination of soft white florals with fresh shades of green, plus hundreds of glittering fairy lights made for the perfect reception setting in our modern glass-walled venue. We chatted to the happy couple about their big day, the standout moments and their wedding planning tips.

HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR HUSBAND? AND THE PROPOSAL?

We met at a popular bar in Johannesburg. Kyle approached me and we got chatting. The next day he messaged asking me out on a date. He proposed at a very special place called Summerfields in Sabie. It is a cafe-style restaurant overlooking the river. We have been going there for years and Kyle has been going there since he was a child. Although he had organised the proposal plan with the manager and staff and all was set up beautifully, the proposal was a private moment between the two of us.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE KAY AND MONTY AS YOUR WEDDING VENUE?

Plett is a very special place to both of us so we always knew we wanted to get married there.  We both share a love for wine so, naturally, a wine farm venue was on our minds and, having grown up on a farm I also wanted a farm feel to the venue. So this is when we decided to focus on the wine farm wedding venues in the Crags. When we walked into Kay and Monty and saw the dam through the big glass sliding doors with the sun shining through, we just took one look at each other and we knew we didn’t have to say anything more. Everything about it captured our hearts, the spacious reception area with glass sliding doors almost right around, the way the reception venue opens up onto the decks overlooking the pond, the beautiful views of the mountains, vineyards and green farm land, and the horses and stables. There is just no place like it.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING STYLE…

We went for a very simplistic, relaxed but elegant wedding style, focusing on simple flower arrangements of white and green and fairy lights throughout the reception area.

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Our wedding day was more than we could have imagined. We were surrounded by our favourite people in the world in one of our favourite places. A highlight for us was our ceremony, we had the most beautiful setting on the lawn right by the dam. The weather was a bit overcast but the sun decided to shine through the clouds onto our congregation at a very specific moment during our ceremony. Our reception area was exactly what we wanted it to be and more, and it allowed for an incredible evening with all our friends and family.

YOUR TOP TIPs FOR PLANNING A WEDDING?

  1. If possible, be involved in your planning. It is a very special time and to see all your planning come together on the day is incredibly special. Have fun with it, together as a couple.

  2. Use suppliers whose work you love and whose previous work you could use as inspiration. You will feel more confident about the planning when you’re working with people you trust.

  3. Don’t sweat the small stuff or overthink the details, hardly anyone notices the small details on the day, including yourself! So focus on the things that matter and will make for a good celebration.

ANY SERVICE PROVIDERS THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND?

I would love to recommend all our suppliers as each one of them were absolutely fantastic. We worked so well with each of them and they made our day as amazing as it was.
